It’s a land of heat and passion even in its food where spicy peppers meet dark red onions to create a cuisine as dramatic as its coast line.

Basilicata is located in the instep of Italy’s boot and is the crossroads of southern Italy. Sometimes referred to by its ancient name of Lucania it contains the almost mythical cave city of Matera. Recently, Matera has become popular as a film destination used in, among others, The Passion of the Christ (2004) and No Time to Die (2021) but other breathtaking towns are still to discover.

Historically, Basilicata was a poor region which adapted local ingredients to replace more expensive ones in surprising and delicious ways. We will be looking at this as well as cooking up some delicious dishes.
