Il presepe di Arnolfo di Cambio

This nativity set, made of six statues, is the oldest surviving one in the world. It was created in about 1290 by Tuscan artist Arnolfo di Cambio, about sixty years after Saint Francis of Assisi created the tradition. It’s kept today in the museum under the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome.
